What is EnglishProz?

Englishproz is an Omaha-based business started by University-level English as a Second Language instructors striving to serve today's multi-cultural work force. We believe that improving communication skills makes employees and their companies more successful.

We work with individuals and small groups to enhance listening, speaking and overall communication skills, which then increases the ability to communicate in the workplace. We provide instruction in listening and reading comprehension, English speaking and writing skills, accent reduction and American business cultural practices.

What different services are available?

1. English tutoring for the workplace

• Students can learn business English or conversational English to help them at work. We teach students to understand the jargon, slang and idioms used by American companies. Classes may be sponsored by a company and held at the workplace, or employees may decide to study English off site, on their own time and at their own expense. Class size may be one student or small groups.
• Lessons are always individualized for the specific needs of the student. We help the students assess their level of competency and decide what would help the most at work. We use standard American pronunciation and can help non-native speakers lose their accents so those co-workers can better understand them.

2. Editing for written documents:

• We teach workers how to prepare business documents (such as reports, contracts, memos or letters) by developing writing skills. We will also review business or personal correspondence and academic papers for students or workers who need a professional end product.

3. English tutoring for school:

• We can assist students with class assignments and homework.
• We will also help people prepare for any type of college exam, a Driver's license test, or English proficiency tests such as the TOEIC or TOEFL exams.

Why would I choose EnglishProz over an ordinary English class?

The instruction will likely be cheaper, faster and more effective. The major advantage of EnglishProz compared to other classes is the instructors. EnglishProz teachers are university instructors who have more than 30 years of combined experience teaching ESL and business communications. They provide lessons that are customized for your specific needs. They are knowledgeable about both business practices and ESL. They are experienced at making speakers more competent and confident.

Where does the English instruction take place?

Tutoring can be done in person or online, at your office or outside the workplace at any mutually convenient place in the Omaha-metro area. Online tutoring can be done from any home or office if you have the right equipment. See the online tutoring page for equipment needs.

When is instruction available?

Mornings - afternoons - evenings - weekends. - The dates and times are very flexible and can be scheduled around your obligations. Some students prefer to meet several times per week for short sessions, others prefer once a week for 1-2 hours. EnglishProz will work hard to accommodate your busy schedule.

How long do I need to take lessons?

You should take lessons until you feel comfortable and confident communicating in English. How long depends on many things: your English ability, speed of learning, intended use of the language, and willingness to practice between classes. Your English teacher will interview you and recommend a study program to meet your goals. Learning a language requires time and effort - so try to be patient.

Do I need to buy classroom materials? Will there be homework assignments?

You do not need to buy materials unless you want to - we customize materials for each student and each class. If you would like to buy a textbook and work through it with your teacher, that is an option. Email or fax are usually used to send materials for online classes. Homework can be assigned if you want to practicve between sessions.

What do teachers need to know about me?

Your teacher will interview you to develop an individualized learning plan. Here are some questions you should be prepared to answer:

• Why do you want to learn English?
• What specific things do you want to learn?
• What is your biggest concern when speaking English?
• Do people have trouble understanding you?
• Do you have trouble on the telephone?
• Do you have enough confidence when you speak in English?
• Do you have a native English speaker to talk to?
• Do you speak English in your home?

How much does instruction cost?

Prices vary by service and size of group. Please contact us for a price quote based on your specific learning needs. Here are some examples:

• Private in-person tutoring sessions are usually $25.00 /hour.
• Online tutoring to Japan costs Yen 10,000 per month for weekly lessons.
• Basic document editing is usually $5.00 per page however; document editing can also be contracted by the hour or by the document.
• Discounts are available for long-term contracts and referrals.

How can I pay for my lessons?

• Private, In person tutoring - cash or check
• Online tutoring can be paid by credit card through PayPal(r).
• Corporate contracts may be paid by check.
• Payment should be made in US dollars (or equivalent amounts in other currencies.)
